Things Your Website Should Have
"
The Internet is a highly competitive world."
By: David Simon
It’s not enough just to have an attractive website if you want to stand out in the crowd. A truly effective website
must have certain qualities if you want it to attract visitors and convert them to customers. When considering the
design of your website, make sure it has these three things:
Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Spiders are the programs used by search engines to assess a website’s relevance
in relation to search engine queries. If your website is not optimized for maximum search engine recognition, then
it will inevitably be ranked lower than websites that are. That means that people searching specifically for your
product or service will be offered several site options before they are offered yours. They may never even get to
yours. You really can’t afford NOT to employ SEO.
Widgets linking to social networking sites. Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter are quickly becoming
one of the most popular ways to spread news like wildfire. Jump aboard this growing trend and watch the word spread
about your business’s products or service. How? Widgets. Widgets are applications that allow users the ability to
interact with website components. The Facebook “Like” button is a great example of a widget that your website
should employ. Create a Facebook page for your business, then link it to your website. That way, your Facebook fans
can get business updates every time you make changes or additions to your website. They can also “Like” the
products or services featured on your page, and that “Like” will be put in their status updates for all their
friends to see. Additionally, you can set up a Twitter account for your business and “Tweet” about anything and
everything your business pertains to, and can also link your Twitter account to your Facebook account, so that all
of your Tweets post on Facebook. Are you getting the idea?
High-quality content. Study after study proves that Internet users want to view quality, relevant copy when
searching through websites. As a matter of fact, they are even willing to put up with obtrusive advertisements and
unappealing webpage design in favor of good content. If you put the time, money and energy into designing a site
and optimizing it for search engine viability, then you need to make sure your viewers have something of quality to
read when they land on your site. Otherwise, they will go elsewhere for it.
